Kids’ Summer Aikido Camp gives kids the opportunity to have two full days of Aikido! We start at the dojo in the morning with formal Aikido classes. Then we clean up, eat lunch, change into beach wear and head to the beach for lots of Aikido-related games and races, like sumo wrestling and bokto watermellon-cutting.
Join us this year for a great time!

Kids’ Summer Gasshuku
August 12 & 13, 2006
“I think this year we had the most overall energy. I could barely get a second to think, and get games, etc. together. But, I think everyone had a really fun time. We had some great tests and other classes. I would like to thank everyone for the time, and I am looking forward to seeing next years’ gasshuku.”
- Nik Valinsky – 13 (Senior Member of AKSB Kids’ Class)
“I liked everything – the calligraphy, learning new techniques, and hanging out with everyone at the beach.”
- Raymond Ramos, 11
“Gasshuku was really fun. I really liked the testing, the game time and hanging out with my friends at the beach.”
- Spencer Glesby, 9
“Gasshuku was really fun. I liked game time, calligraphy class, and chopping the watermelon.”
- Brendan Bevier, 9
“Gasshuku was really fun. I liked writing in Japanese. I’m happy I tested. Everyone trained hard.”
- Dylan Kitao, 9
“Gasshuku was really fun. Learning Japanese writing was really fun and going to the beach.”
- Chessie Diamond, 6“Every year, the members of AKI Santa Barbara Kids’ Class spend two days together doing what they love – Aikido. This year, not unlike others, kids trained together, learned together, laughed together, swam together, played, ran, and jumped together… They solidified their dojo community just a little more.
But every year is different. Every gasshuku has its own rhythm; it’s own challenges; its own rewards.
We hope that all the participants learned and grew from the experience. We know we did.”
