We experienced fire in Santa Barbara not too long ago. People lost their homes. People lost their belongings. And they gained opportunities for renewal, re-creation, and gratitude. The town of Santa Barbara, has been experiencing community consciousness to an extent we rarely see, with people volunteering their time and resources to help those in need.
Similarly, the dojo has been through a “fire” of sorts in the past year and a half, the spark having been the loss of our wonderful training space on State Street. Now in this new year, with a new dojo governing structure in a country with a new government, it is up to us to carefully, consciously, and joyfully rebuild and rediscover our dojo according to our wonderful dream. We need to rebuild not only the physical space, but also the community it will house. It is up to us to raise from the ashes a dojo that meets and even exceeds our dreams.
