When there is movement, there is the possibility for change and progress.
When there is no movement, there is the danger of becoming stagnant and complacent.
We often notice that one of the most challenging situations on the mat is when out partner is neither pushing nor pulling in his attack. The times that we need to work the hardest are the times when he is strong, heavy, and grounded. In these situations, the first thing we need to do is to create movement.
Like driving a car, if we don’t first create movement, then “steering” is very difficult or even impossible. If we keep the car moving, we can easily steer wherever we like and change its course as needed, whenever needed.
Our dojo is “moving” now. In the road ahead, we may need to take some turns we’re not expecting at the moment. We may even need to make a U-turn at some point.
If we keep the forward movement, we can go any direction we want. Our future is whatever we will it to be.
