New Intern Intro – Danny Nguyen

Why I wanted to get involved:

I believe that Aikido Kenkyukai Santa Barbara will turn into something great in the near future and I just wanted to be a part of that. Aikido isn’t something you hear everyday and it is a very unique style of Japanese Martial arts that is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. I want to be part of the new Dojo, I want to be part of the community, and I want to broaden my horizons.

My impressions so far:

Everyone there is very professional, friendly, and knows how to engage the children. The instructor is very supportive and gives you good attention. Watching the adults and kids doing aikido is a lot of fun. The children are disciplined well and it is very fun to watch their senpai fix them into order. You can tell they are having fun while staying focused, and they are. Taking the class is a totally different feel. It is very traditional and technical. Even though I only took one class, I definitely learned a lot.

All the skills are useful in life and that’s what I love about it. Sit in on one of the classes to really get a feel for the environment.
